Reflection 5

Reflecting on the past week will be harder just because I was gone a couple days from being sick. But one of the days I was there ,we went through the book by annotating it I forget the pages we went over. But every time we annotate the book my understanding of the book increases dramatically. It really helps me out in every way because this book still confuses me so much a lot of the time when i'm reading. while annotating we started to talk about  Tayo's kindness. How he is kind to everyone even though most of the time he's treated harshly just because of his race. I think its cool how he can be still so kind even though he has been through so much going through WW2 and seeing everything he's seen having his brother killed and all the friends he's lost. He still at the end has a loving attitude towards everybody and really everything. Another one of the days we got to read for pretty much the whole class time. That really helped me out just so I could catch up. Because for most of the year I have been trying to catch up with everybody. and finally I'm pretty much caught up with everyone in the class.

Reflection 4

This past week has been probably the best week for me of the year in this class. We got to see the Navy Seal Clay and got to see him tell his story. I thought what was very interesting is how he gave up his D1 baseball offers to go to the army and serve his country. That has so be one of the biggest sacrifices ever and I thank men and woman like that every single day and have the ever most respect to people like that decide to go fight for their country.  The story Clay told us about how he had to shoot a little girl who had a bomb strapped to her chest really got my attention, really made me see what some of these people have to live with. I felt terrible that Clay had to be the one to make the decision on whether to let her come across the highway and blow him and his companies and everybody in the restaurant up, or shoot her .  During 7th period he told us that he could see the little girl in the back of the room, taste the blood, and hear gun fire. He said pretty much every morning or late at night he sees that little girl. He wishes instead of shooting her he would of ran out there and held her and they would of both just blown up. Through all of his missions he said that eight of his men died . He said that he would change positions with any one of them that he would rather be dead and have them alive. That really shows the brotherly love these men have with each other that he would switch positions with them. He also talked about how to be successful. you have to want it as much as you want to breathe and that really hit me and motivated me in everyway.

Reflection post 3

Through  all of last week we went through the book Ceremony and annotated it. Before going through all the annotating of.the book. It really confused me in every way possible.but as we were going over the book.My understanding of it is increased steadily and is still increasing. The book at times still confuses me and I have to go back and read over and over again. But its becoming a little easier to read day by day. Why its so confusing is just because it switches keeps switching to before WW2,  during World War 2 ,and after so at times you forget what your reading. And also its hard to read because Tayo develops P.T.S.D after the war and sometimes your reading and you don't know whether it happened or not. A thing that was interesting about the book is that Tayo is a a half breed. Half White half Indian so he's not always welcome in each of the colors or hes looked down on by some. I just think how its funny how you have to be a full breed back then to be really welcome in some areas. You have absolutely no control over whether your half breed full or whatever. 

Reflection 2

 Last week we went through many different things reading more of the book Ceremony and watching the documentary the Real Injun. The book Ceremony is still just too confusing for me and I still do not understand  it. After watching the Reel Injun you could really see the racism change for native Americans especially in the movies. At first in the movie industry there were no Indians in movies at all, they would have Caucasians play the Native Americans . When native Americans were put in the movies they would always be the bad guys and the white american would always be the hero that kills the savages. You can see how racist the movie industry was at first. As you go along in the years you can see it start to change. More Native Americans start coming into movies in the 90's . you really saw a change because Indians weren't always the bad guy. Being a Native american started to be come cool. During these years you start seeing movies that portray the  native american as the bad ass hero. For example is the movie Rambo played by Sylvester Stallone. He is a native american that was a hero in the movie. In the early years of the movies Indians were always portrayed as having worn a head band or every Indian wearing a chief feather hat. This actually was not the case at all. Only the chief would have the feather hat, and the Injuns would really never have a head band. But there wasn't just racism  in the movie industry. You would see racism just in general. When thinking of a native american in general, people would think they all are alcoholics. They have a problem with drinking and drugs. Another thing people think of when talking about Native Americans is that they all ride horses bareback and shoot bows and arrows, which is not even true. Before watching this documentary I'll admit I knew very little about Native Americans, but after watching this move I feel like I know a lot more and I really enjoyed the film.

ceremony reflection #1

Through all of last week we  read the book Ceremony. The book is literally the most confusing book I have ever read and I do not understand it at all.  I think its so confusing for me is  because it changes from past, present , and future when they are talking. I do not like the book at all mostly just because I don't understand anything they are saying most of the time. I understand the plot and the setting, just don't understand what they are talking about. I usually like books that are about war but this is just to confusing. Hopefully I will understand it by the end of the book. Its crazy what war can do to your mind and how not everybody is built to go fight for their country. Whats very interesting is how Tayo, even though he didn't want to go to war, went just because of his older brother Rocky.  I think that is interesting  just because I started playing football because of my older brother. Its crazy how you do something just because you look up to another person.

Dances With Wolves reflection #2

As we finished up watching Dances With Wolves last week the movie was very enjoyable. one of the scenes that intrigued me in the movie was the buffalo scene. its really fascinating that the Indians paint all these drawings on themselves and their horses to show that their are one together.its crazy to see the culture of the two people. For example when John Dunbar shot the buffalo before it ran into the little Indian warrior. He just expects them to thank him and that's that. But for the Indians when you kill a buffalo and save someone you are supposed to take a bite out of the liver, or some important body part. When they offer it to him at first he's hesitant and doesn't want to do it. But he takes a bite just so he doesn't disrespect them.

The Creek Indians

Before the 18th century the Creek Indians occupied the area of  Alabama and Georgia.They were a part of a union that had many other tribes that lived in the area. The creek union was formed to protect its self from other bigger tribes. When the Europeans started coming to the new world they began calling the Indians creek Indians because of the nearby O Cheese Creek.The Colonist usually named the various Indian tribes based on where the Indians lived. The Creek Indians were not a nomadic tribe, rather they put down roots by setting up towns. Each of the towns that the creek Indians settled were self sufficient. When a Creek Indian Town grew to a certain number, the town would split in half; one of the halves would move away and would establish a new town close by. They would maintain a good relationship with the town they lived in before.    


  In each of the towns the Creek people built a ceremonial shrine that would serve as the town center. Each of the huts were around this town center. The settlers influence would catch on with the Indians. They started building homes out of wood. The Creek Indians, for the most part, tried to keep peace with the white man. That peace would not last. More and more settlers came from Europe to America, and started building on Creek Indian territories. War broke out between the two and the Creek nation was divided. Some  creek Indians Fought against the white man, and others formed allies with them . After fighting for many years A peace treaty was eventually signed between the Creek Indians and the USA in 1812.
